Sara Krause, M.Ed.
EDUCATION
Sara earned her master’s degree in Exercise Physiology with a concentration in Sports Science and Nutrition from the University of Texas in 2006. She has been coaching competitive athletes and assisting individuals reach their fitness goals since 2005. While at the University of Texas, Sara wrote training protocols for soccer players, volleyball players, and ultra-endurance athletes, to name a few. She is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and stays up-to-date on all of the latest research and information in the field of exercise physiology. Sara has her level 3 coaching certification from USA Cycling.
BACKGROUND
Sara is an avid mountain biker and competes in cross-country and ultra-endurance events and has also been a competitive runner and soccer player. She was a proud member of the Trek/VW Texas Regional mountain bike team during its existence. She currently rides for Bicycle Sport Shop and is the founder of the newly formed Bicycle Sport Shop Women’s Team and club component, which dedicates itself to the development of female athletes. Sara also rides for the AT&T Brain and Spine cycling team in road racing events. She is consistently ranked one of the top racers in Texas in both ultra-endurance (including 24 hour solo racing) and cross-country racing, and is ranked in the top 10 in her age category nationally.
Sara is a 23-year veteran of equestrian sports and has competed in both jumpers and dressage with a current focus on the latter. Sara has literally worked her way up the ranks in the sport: having secured barn cleaning and grooming positions since the age of 16, she has given herself access to a financially demanding world.
ADVOCACY
Before pursuing her passion full-time, Sara was a Vice President of a public affairs consulting firm with a specific expertise in local government. She was very successful in her representation of several multi-national firms before local governments nationwide.
In 2007, Sara was invited to be on Austin Mayor Will Wynn’s Street Smarts Task Force to make recommendations to the city on improving bicycle access and safety. She was elected chair of the task force and served in that role for over a year. Sara is a widely recognized bicycle advocate in the Austin area and has spoken on behalf of bike projects, and at the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Bicycle and Pedestrian Summit. In addition to her work on the task force, Sara identified and helped secure seed funding for a very important 3.5 million dollar bicycle project in Southwest Austin.
In 2008, Sara was appointed by Mayor Wynn to serve on the city’s Urban Transportation Commission where she was subsequently appointed by the chair to head the Bicycle and Pedestrian Subcommittee.
HOME
Sara lives in Indianapolis, Indiana with her husband, John. Sara services clients nationwide, including Texas, Indiana, and Washington state. An animal lover to her core, she has three dogs, a cat, and two horses.
